WHEN HARRY TRIES TO MARRY” HONORED WITH THREE AWARDS AT THE 13th LONDON ASIAN FILM FESTIVAL

Wins Best Crossover Film, Audience Award for Best Film, and

Best New Talent for Rahul Rai

LONDON, UK – March 28, 2011 – “When Harry Tries to Marry,” a new independent feature film from writer-producer-director Nayan Padrai, dominated awards night at the 2011 London Asian Film Festival.  The romantic comedy, which stars newcomer Rahul Rai as a young Indian-American man in New York who unexpectedly pursues an arranged marriage in order to avoid risking a love match that might fizzle, was named Best Crossover Film and won the Audience Award for Best Film. Rahul Rai was named Best New Talent.

The Awards were presented Sunday at BAFTA in London.  Both Nayan Padrai and his producing partner Sheetal Vyas accepted for the film, and Rahul Rai was on hand to receive his Best New Talent award.  The film made its Festival premiere on March 26th to a full and enthusiastic house.

The London Asian Film Festival was founded in 1999 and is dedicated to expressing the drive and spirit of Asian independent media and cinema cultures of South Asia.  The majority of the films shown are independent or arthouse cinema, as opposed to Bollywood.  The founders seek films offering entertainment intertwined with political and social messages.

“We are thrilled to be receiving these honors from our peers and fellow filmmakers,” said Padrai. “This movie grew out of an idea that my co-writer, Ralph Stein, and I had, and it has been a labor of love all the way.  A group of us obtained independent financing and I made my directing debut with it. This kind of recognition means so much, especially when it’s such a personal project.”

“When Harry Tries to Marry” opens in New York on April 22nd  and in Los Angeles on May 6th. 108 Pics is distributing through Alerion Services.
